Urban Layers: Explore the structure of Manhattan's urban fabric


The architectural practice Morphcode has created an interactive mapping tool that allows you to explore the age of most of Manhattan's buildings.


Using NYC Open Data's building footprints and PLUTO land use information together with a sliding timeline, you can watch the growth of Manhattan starting as early as 1765. While not completely accurate, it is a captivating tool for studying the growth and intensification of one of the world's great cities.
