University of Waterloo RefWorks accounts migrating to the United States

This message is to inform you that the University of Waterloo RefWorks accounts are being moved off of a Canadian server and will be hosted on a server in the United States.  This process is automatic and does not require any action on your part.  We are expecting a change in the RefWorks web site URL, but you will be able to continue accessing it from the University of Waterloo Library website.

If you are opposed to having your account on an American server, contact the RefWorks Administration team at by April 10, 2015 and your account can be deleted and/or guidance can be given to helping you switch to other citation software.

The date for the University of Waterloo migration is May 2015.  You will need to re-download and install the Write-n-cite plugin after the migration.  All attachments will be migrated.

If you have any questions about this move, please feel free to send them to

All the best,

Tim Ireland and Sandra Keys,

Your University of Waterloo RefWorks co-administrators

RefWorks is a web-based citation and bibliography tool that is available to uWaterloo students, faculty, staff and alumni.

This guide will walk you through all of the basic functionalities RefWorks offers, as well as some new features and troubleshooting tips.

With RefWorks, you can:

  • Organize and create a personal online database of references
  • Format references for bibliographies and papers in a wide variety (over 3,000) styles  (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
  • Import references to your RefWorks account from a variety of databases using the Direct Export feature offered by many databases, or using Import Filters included in your RefWorks account
  • Incorporate RSS feeds and import data from those feeds directly into RefWorks

Log-In to RefWorks now!

uWaterloo users require a group code to login when working off-campus. The group code is emailed to you when you sign up for your account. You can also find the group code here. Please note that you MUST be connected via proxy (i.e., "connect from home") in order to view this page showing the group code.

If you cannot access it, contact
