Screencasting Guidelines: Project
Settings

This LibGuide outlines the best practices that must be followed when creating a screencast as part of the University of Waterloo Library.

Recommended HD Production Settings

In order to apply the 1920x1080 recording dimensions, all Camtasia screencasts should be done on a 16:9 widescreen monitor. This is done to achieve 1080 HD resolution.

Recording:
1920x1080 (custom)

Editing:
1920x1080

Producing:
1920x1080 (custom)

Other possible Recording Dimensions

  1. Keep a 4:3 ratio (for every 4 pixels wide there are 3 pixels high) for both the standard and widescreen setting.
  2. Maintain the same dimensions for recording and producing

A useful tip from TechSmith help:

  1. Standard, 4:3 (width:height) Popular dimensions include: 320x240, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768
  2. Widescreen, 16:9 (width:height) Popular dimensions include: 640x360, 800x450, 960x540, 1024x576, 1280x720, and 1920x1080
