Browsing Basics

You can browse ARTstor images by Geography, Classification, or Collection:

Geography

All images in ARTstor have been assigned standard Geographic terms according to a controlled list of country names based on the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names.

For site specific work (architecture, murals, public monuments), the country term is applied based on the LOCATION of the work.
For objects in repositories, country terms were applied based on the nationality of the creator.
In complex cases, both were assigned.

Classification

ARTstor images are subdivided into sixteen broad classifications:

Browsing by Collection allows you to view all the collections in ARTstor. Each collection is subdivided by categories based on the content of the collection.
