Master of Accounting Program: Selecting Resources

Scholarly/Academic vs Popular

Google & Google Scholar

There is nothing wrong with using Google and/or Google Scholar as long as you take care to evaluate what you find and from where it's coming.

Try the CRAP test (see Evaluating Resources) for evaluating websites or pages found through a Google search.

Items found through a Google Scholar search can generally be expected to be from reputable and/or academic sources. Treat it like any other Research Database (not necessarily comprehensive) and don't use it exclusively.

In both cases, take advantage of the various searching techniques available through the Advanced Search, such as phrase searching and domain designation.
