Accessing books

It is helpful to sign in to the catalogue to ensure you are able to see all of your options. Clicking on the title of the book in the results list will show you how to get the book.

If the book is available online, follow the link to the full text. If you are not able to access it online, please click the 'Report a problem' button. We will look into the issue and get back to you.

If we have the physical book in our collection, you will have the option to request a chapter be scanned and emailed to you, or request the book be mailed to you (within Canada), or request that the book be made available for you to pick up from campus. If you have any questions about these processes, please use the 'Chat' function available through the Library's website.

If Waterloo does not have it, but another library in the catalogue does, you can request it from that library. Again, you can request that it be mailed to you (within Canada), or be made available for you to pick up from Waterloo's campus.

Use interlibrary loan (ILL) to request books not available from Waterloo

Use interlibrary loan (ILL) if you cannot find the book you want in the Library's catalogue. The Library will borrow it from another institution, usually at no cost to you. 

  • User ID= WatCard Barcode
  • Password = last name in lowercase
  • Fill out a blank request form
  • Usually no cost. If there is a cost, you will be contacted before the order is finalized
