HLTH 101 Online Module: Scholarly Journals: Introduction

Steps for completing module:

This online module is designed to provide each student with the background information needed to complete your HLTH 101 assignments.  After the completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • Distinguish between scholarly journals and popular magazines

  • Understand the content and purpose of a research article and how to effectively read one

  • Explain what peer-review is and why it is important

  • Use appropriate, peer-reviewed articles as sources for your class assignments

  • Identify the components of an APA citation for a journal article and create a properly formatted citation

For each part of this online module: 1) read the content, 2) watch the videos and 3) complete associated activities.  It is expected to take approximately 30 min to complete the module.

Understanding of the content in this module will be assessed through the Scholarly Journal Quiz located in the HLTH 101 LEARN course which must be completed by the date indicated in your Course Schedule

This online module was created by Jackie Stapleton, August 2017, updated on September 2022.

It is based on the AHS 107 Online Module, created by Jackie Stapleton and Sara Thompson, July 2016.
