What is a Trusted Party?

There are two types of trusted parties. There are trusted organizations and trusted individuals.

A trusted organization is an institution, like the University of Waterloo, which you can grant permissions to. The key benefit of adding a trusted organization is that they can add verified items, like education or employment history, to your ORCID Record, giving you the recognition for your work that you deserve.

A trusted individual is another person, with an ORCID iD, who can edit and update your ORCID record. However, they cannot edit anything that requires your ORCID password.

Why should I add the University of Waterloo as a Trusted Organization?

Adding the University of Waterloo allows the University to add verified employment, education, or research history to your account.

This offers several benefits:

  • Efficiency: save time and effort by authorizing the University to update your account.
  • Credibility: enhance the credibility of your profile with a verified employment and research history.
  • Visibility: ensure you get proper recognition for your work.

Another built-in benefit is privacy. You retain full control of your ORCID iD. If you would prefer to keep certain information private, you are free to alter the visibility settings of individual record items and you can always remove permissions your previously granted to the University.
