Bibliometric Measures in Citation-Tracking Databases: Scopus citation data

Research impact measures for individual items in Scopus

Citations and Field-Weighted Citation Impact counts can be found in Scopus under 'Metrics'.

  • Citation Count: The Citation Count is the total number of documents indexed by Scopus that cite a document, group of documents, or researchers.
  • Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWC): The FWCI shows citation impact compared to similar articles (type, discipline and age) indexed by Scopus. It is calculated by dividing the number of citations received by a document by the number of citations received by similar documents.

Citation analysis for a group of Scopus publications

Scopus offers the ability to overview citation activity for a defined group of publications via the Analyze Search Results feature. This feature allows you to produce an overview of citation activity for a defined group of publications.

At the search results level you can:

  • Modify the date range for publications and citation activity, exclude self citations of all authors, and/or exclude citations from books.

  • Automatically calculate the h-index for the group of publications.

Analyze search results function generates information about metrics.

It is possible to make graphs with metric information in Scopus.

Citation alerts

As with many databases, Scopus offers ways to keep you up to date with new citations to specific publications. Two features support this:

  • Set Citation Alert: Creating this email alert will notify you via email when the specified document receives new citations by items in Scopus.

  • Set Citation Feed: Creating this feed will notify you via RSS when the specified document receives new citations by items in Scopus.

The 'Set Alert' button can be found in the options bar.
