Open access definitions that might help you when reading publisher and funder policies:

• Pre-print
  • Also known as the original or submitted manuscript
  • This is the version of the paper written by the author(s) but does not have any of the changes from peer review
• Post-print
  • Also known as the accepted manuscript
  • This is the version of the paper that contains the changes from the journal's peer review process
• Version of record
  • This version contains the changes from the peer review process
  • It also has the publisher's formatting (it is the final published paper)

Consult the publisher's or granting agency's policies on the permitted use of AI in your research. If use is allowed (often with limitations), follow the expectations for disclosure of use.
